The Best Nae Nae Dance Videos of the Summer
August 18, 2015

Alexa Moffett’s dancers show how to mix the nae nae with side tilts.

OK, it’s official. Silentó’s “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” is the hit of the summer. (The new “Uptown Funk,” if you will.) If you’ve got any doubts, we’ve compiled some of the best nae nae–inspired viral videos below. But first, you might need a refresher on what some of these moves actually are.

The nae nae, for instance, is a goofy celebratory dance, created by the Atlanta music group WeAreToonz in their eponymous song. Basically, it involves rocking back and forth, shifting your weight from foot to foot, while raising one arm and keeping the other at your side.

The whip and the stanky leg (another move in “Watch Me”) have a little less going on: The whip is all about bringing your elbow and opposite knee close together, only to, well, whip your wrist down and forward—like you’re driving a car. The stanky leg requires a loose leg grooving back and forth, in and out of rotation. Don’t worry—Silentó explains it all in his how-to video.

And now for the viral vids! First off, we have the staff of a Louisiana hospital surprising a patient (who’d been receiving therapy to treat tumors on her spine) with a flash mob:

For a studio-dance twist, check out Alexa Moffett’s dancers, who throw in switch leaps and tilts:

Then there’s this police officer in Texas who couldn’t help joining a few kids to show off his moves:
