Modern Dance To-Go: New Dancing Sondheim App
August 29, 2014

In 2011, choreographer Richard Daniels launched Dances for an iPhone as a way to disseminate modern dance to a broad, technology-loving audience. His new app, Dancing Sondheim, features performances by major figures in modern, ballet and dance education: Horton disciple Carmen de Lavallade, critic and choreographer Deborah Jowitt, Juilliard teacher and former Limón dancer Risa Steinberg, former Mark Morris dancer Megan Williams and Barnard College’s Robert La Fosse, a former principal with American Ballet Theatre and New York City Ballet, to name a few.

The free app includes seven dance performances set to recordings of Sondheim classics, including selections from Sunday in the Park with George, A Little Night Music, Into the Woods and more. Two additional films are scheduled to be added later this year, and will include a duet for Carmen de Lavallade and Martine van Hamel.

On September 1, Dancing Sondheim will be available for download on the iPad, iPhone and through iTunes, with plans to offer it to Android users soon.
