Class with Ailey's Last Company Dancer
November 29, 2012

The last of Alvin Ailey’s hand-picked company dancers, Renee Robinson will give her final performance as a member of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater on December 9. Before she departs, Robinson will lead a four-week Revelations master class series at the Ailey Extension.

These classes—open to the public—will start with a basic Horton warm-up to live accompaniment and progress to choreography from Ailey’s iconic Revelations. This is a chance for students to learn Ailey’s rep and get an in-depth understanding of how Revelations incorporates Horton technique. Details on the class series can be found on the Ailey Extension’s web site.

With a longer AAADT career than any other female dancer, and as the only dancer to have performed under all three of the company’s directors (Ailey, Judith Jamison and now Robert Battle), Robinson will also receive a 2012 Dance Magazine Award at a ceremony held at the Ailey theater on December 3.
