What My Teacher Taught Me: Mia Monteabaro
January 22, 2016

Monteabaro in Loni Landon’s new year new you

From ages 12 to 18, Whim W’Him dancer Mia Monteabaro studied ballet with Ellen Schipper at West Coast Ballet in Santa Barbara, CA. Under Schipper’s tutelage, Monteabaro learned more than just dance steps.

“She trained us to do every part of a production. She taught us how to sew our own costumes. She had us overseeing the younger students and doing administrative work. She wanted us to really know all the work that goes into a show by doing it ourselves, and not take anything for granted.”

See Monteabaro with Whim W’Him in IN-spired at Cornish Playhouse at Seattle Center tonight through January 30.
