NDI students in performance

The Wallace Foundation has named the National Dance Institute of New Mexico one of eight top arts organizations in the United States. NDI New Mexico, now in its 20th year, was co-founded by former New York City Ballet dance Catherine Oppenheimer, modeled after Jacques d’Amboise’s flagship NDI location in New York City. When NDI New Mexico first opened in 1994, it offered dance to 100 children; that number has grown to 7,500, via in-school, after-school, summer and advanced training classes in 34 New Mexico communities. Nearly 100 schools are currently on the waiting list to participate in NDI New Mexico. The organization also offers an instructor certification program. The Wallace Foundation chose this nonprofit as a top arts organization after publishing a report identifying success principles for after-school arts programs.
