Eryc Taylor Dance
When choreographer Eryc Taylor was studying at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, his composition teacher Phyllis Lamhut taught him a meaningful way to approach dancemaking.
“She said to me, ‘Find the gestalt in the work.’ That meant finding what the guts were, what the essence of the piece really was, so it wasn’t just movement for movement’s sake. That really resonated with me, so it’s something I’ve always referred back to when I’m making a new work.”
See Eryc Taylor Dance’s 10-year anniversary concert tonight and tomorrow at 8 pm at the Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance in New York City.
