News: The Philanthropist Formerly Known as Prince
May 2, 2011

In a February 7 ceremony at NYC’s Madison Square Garden, music legend Prince announced his gift of $1 million to the Harlem Children’s Zone, an NYC program that offers education, social-service and community-building programs, and an additional $250,000 each to Harlem-based Uptown Dance Academy and The American Ballet Theatre’s arts education programs. Students from HCZ were present to meet the seven-time Grammy winner after the announcement. “We can’t wait and see—or only hope for—the future of those coming after us,” said Prince. “We must actively take responsibility for ensuring their success.”
