The Misty Movie
August 18, 2014

We dance-lovers have known Misty Copeland is stunning and amazing for years, but the mainstream media is just catching on. This is good news for us, because it means more ballet on TV (her Under Armour ad that stopped the blogosphere in its tracks earlier this month), in books (her New York Times best-selling memoir, Life in Motion) and now, in movies.

Copeland’s memoir has been optioned for a biopic by New Line Cinema. The story will focus on her training years, starting at 13 at the Boys & Girls Club in San Pedro, California, and follows her rise to ballet stardom. It will also include the custody battle that developed between her mother and her host family as her training became more serious.

“SYTYCD” judge and Step Up producer Adam Shankman is on the production team, so we should be in for some great dancing. No casting has been announced yet, but we’re eager to see who’s enlisted to play a young Misty.
