These four ballet companies refreshed their productions of the beloved holiday classic.

The Salt Lake City–based Ballet West, which has performed founder Willam Christensen's beloved version since 1963, received a grant from the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation to update its Nutcracker.

The sets and costumes used for the past 30 years, designed by Ariel Ballif and David Heuvel, will be replaced this season by new aesthetics conceived by Ballet West's artistic director, Adam Sklute, and the Ballet West team.
