NYPL Hosts a Marathon Reading of Martha Graham’s Autobiography
April 14, 2016

Martha Graham in Deaths and Entrances (1943)

If you know anything about Martha Graham, you know she had a flair for drama. This is, after all, the woman who said, “The only sin is mediocrity.” I like to think she’d be pleased, then, by what’s happening this coming Monday at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts: a marathon reading of her autobiography, Blood Memory, by some of the dance world’s most important and influential ladies. Michelle Dorrance, Deborah Jowitt, Tiler Peck, Wendy Whelan, Sonya Tayeh and Wendy Perron are all part of the lineup.

It’s all part of celebrating the Graham company’s 90th anniversary this year. The reading is actually taking place on the same day (90 years in the future, that is) that the first iteration of the Graham company had its first public performance.

It starts at 11 am and will finish by 5:30 pmClick here for more details and a reader schedule.

Don’t miss a single issue of Dance Teacher.
