This Weekend’s Big Apple Tap Fest in NYC

Hoofers cheesin’ it up at a past Big Apple Tap Fest

No one’s going to deny that New York City has an insane offering of dance classes, but sometimes a particular festival comes along that just has so many workshops and performance opportunities and history talks that it’s overwhelming (in the best possible way). This weekend, the Big Apple Tap Festival happens in NYC, and the class spread is mind-boggling: three separate adult programs, two teen programs, a pre-teen program, tap dance history sessions and even a special memorial class dedicated to Oklahoma City University professor Robert L. Reed II, who passed away in July. The faculty list includes plenty of DT favorites: Chloé and Maud Arnold, Debbi Dee, Anthony LoCascio, Ray Hesselink, Dianne Walker…basically, it’s a cornucopia of tap dance.

The festival, which is directed by Israeli dancers (and tap shoe manufacturers) Avi Miller and Ofer Ben, runs Friday through Sunday and takes place at locations in midtown, Hell’s Kitchen and Harlem. Although some classes are sold out, you can still register for what’s open. Click here to learn more.
