Staging app for iPad;

$199 in the iTunes store

Plugging new students into set roles in large-scale, annual productions (like The Nutcracker) can be tedious. The StageWrite app—popular with Broadway directors and choreographers, like Susan Stroman and Christopher Gattelli—eliminates the need for complicated handwritten staging instructions. With it, you can import or draw the dimensions of your performance space, add any scenic elements, create icons for each performer (“snowflake 3″ or “Lauren G.”) and start staging. Use the app to drag performers into desired positions and document blocking and traffic patterns for each person. Want to add choreography, count by count? The in-app purchase Staging Score ($49.99) allows you to type in what dance moves happen at what count (or, if you prefer, at what lyric) for each performer. Any chart created with the app can be printed or shared in PDF or JPG format via e-mail.
