Farrell and Peter Martins in Balanchine’s Chaconne

Suzanne Farrell, former New York City Ballet principal and Balanchine muse, received Juilliard’s honorary doctorate of arts last month. During her 28 years as a performer, Farrell danced in more than 100 ballets, many of which were created for her by legendary choreographers like Jerome Robbins (his In Memory Of…) and Balanchine (Don Quixote, Mozartiana and the “Diamonds” section from his Jewels). Farrell is now a professor at Florida State University and artistic director of her own company. She also works closely with The George Balanchine Trust, staging his works for ballet companies worldwide.
