Twyla's At It Again—Teaching, That Is

Tharp in rehearsal with Pacific Northwest Ballet dancers

Twyla Tharp is having quite a year. Only a couple of months after joining the faculty of NYC’s Barnard College as a guest artist (and teaching at our Dance Teacher Summit), Tharp has been named Joyce Theater Foundation’s artist in residence. Her position (which is pretty new—only Stephen Petronio has held this post previously) lasts for two years and comes with some pretty nice perks, including rehearsal and administrative space, a salary and the chance to teach classes.

Students can take class with Tharp’s ballet masters and dancers at the Joyce’s Dance Art New York Studios, near 8th Avenue and West 38th Street. Classes cost $17 each and take place from 10:30 am to noon, Monday through Friday.
