High school dancers who attended Dancewave’s college fair for dancers, “Dancing Through College and Beyond”

More than 350 students attended the fifth annual “Dancing Through College and Beyond” event at NYC’s Marymount Manhattan College this past Sunday. Produced by Brooklyn-based dance center Dancewave, this all-day affair—free for high school juniors and seniors—introduced college hopefuls to dance faculty members and dance professionals from more than 35 schools (including Ailey/Fordham, CalArts, Ohio State University, The Juilliard School, Cornish College of the Arts, Sarah Lawrence College, New York University, Pace University). Students had the chance to network with college dance department representatives, students and alumni; take movement classes taught by faculty members (including DT’s September cover, Jodie Gates, from the University of Southern California’s new Glorya Kaufman School of Dance!); sit in on panel discussions about applications, financial aid and auditions (DT’s editor in chief Karen Hildebrand was part of one); and watch performances from college dance departments. (Whew. What a day.)

Got a student in mind you think would love to attend? Keep your eyes peeled for next year’s event!
