Coffee for Choreography
January 15, 2014

In addition to other health benefits, coffee could aid your memory, which—for dance teachers and students alike—cannot be underrated.

In a recent study, participants looked at a set of pictures, then some were given caffeine pills. The next day, they saw more pictures and were asked if images were the same, different or different but similar to those they had seen the day before. Participants who had ingested the caffeine equivalent of about two cups of coffee were significantly better at picking out the different but similar images.

Researchers stress that caffeine is not a “memory pill,” but it sounds like a cup o’ Joe after rehearsal will do more than bump up your energy for the next class. It may help you recall new choreography next time.
