Dance 1, Cancer 0
October 1, 2013

IBC dancers performing Indiana Ballet Conservatory is a not-for-profit ballet school with a mission to give back to the community. At the Indianapolis Museum of Art this Friday, October 4, IBC will present the first annual Pulse: Pointe to the Cure, a fundraising event for pediatric cancer research. The event was inspired by a brave 7-year-old boy named Joey Keller who was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. Before Joey passed away last November, he and his parents created the Team Joey program, with a two-fold purpose: raising awareness to beat pediatric cancer and delivering Legos to kids battling cancer in local hospitals.

The evening will begin with a reception at 6 pm and a preview performance by IBC students of their upcoming show Pulse: Dancing to the Beat of Our Drummer at 7:30 pm. (IBC will give two shows of the full production on October 12.) For the past month, former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has joined IBC dancers in visiting pediatric patients of Riley Children’s Hospitals and handing out Legos, in keeping with little Joey’s wishes. It seems like all of Indiana is getting in on the big event on October 4: even Colts head coach Chuck Pagano will be there, to help shave the heads of some of IBC’s board members.

You can buy tickets to the event and find out more information here.
